Why Sydney families start with a free lesson

Sydney has plenty of Quran classes in Lakemba, Auburn and Bankstown, and it also has some of the slowest after-school traffic in the country. A 5pm class ten minutes away is a forty-minute journey in practice, which is why so many families sign up in Term 1 and drift by Term 3. The free trial costs nothing and shows you what a lesson without the drive looks like.

One teacher, one child, about thirty minutes. Your child reads aloud and is corrected as each mistake happens — letters and sounds if they are on Qaida, harakat and stopping rules if they read quickly but inaccurately. You watch the lesson and are then told honestly where they stand.

Teaching happens in clear English, which suits children in south-west Sydney who speak Arabic, Bengali, Urdu or Turkish at home but do all their schooling in English. Arabic pronunciation is modelled sound by sound rather than assumed.
