Birmingham is one of the few British cities where a walk-in maktab is genuinely nearby for most families, so the question here is different: is your child actually being heard? In a room of twenty-five children reading at once, a mistake can repeat for a year without correction. A free half-hour trial gives one teacher's full attention to one child, and tells you the truth about the reading.

The trial is 30 minutes, one to one. Your child reads and is stopped at each error — a heavy letter softened, a madd cut short, a sukoon read as a vowel — and repeats it correctly on the spot. You listen in and get the assessment directly rather than a report at the end of term.

Families in Small Heath, Sparkhill, Alum Rock and Handsworth often use a private lesson alongside the local maktab rather than instead of it: the maktab keeps the routine and the community, and the private half hour cleans up pronunciation. That combination works well and we will say so if it fits your child.
